Pirenzepine is a selective anticholinergic agent that blocks the choline receptor, reduces the secretion of gastric acid and pepsin, and relieves the spasm and pain of smooth muscle. It has a strong effect on the M receptor of gastric mucosa, but a small effect on the M receptor of smooth muscle, myocardium and salivary gland, so it has few side effects on the heart, pupil, salivary gland and gastrointestinal smooth muscle. It is mainly used for acute and chronic gastric and duodenal ulcer, especially for gastric acid secretion caused by high choline vagus tension.
